Ghana caretaker coach Maxwell Konadu insists Saudi Arabia based Emmanuel Osei Banahene has done enough in the Saudi top-flight to merit a national team call up.

Konadu was criticized in certain quarters for inviting a player who has scored once in nine league appearances for the double 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and Togo.

There were calls for Atalanta striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom who has scored two goals in ten Serie A appearances to have been called up to replace injured Asamoah Gyan.

Former Hearts striker Mahatma Otoo scored nine goals in 27 matches for his relegated Norwegian side Sogndal but was overlooked.

Konadu has defended his decision saying the former Berekum Chelsea striker has been in top-shape in recent times.

“Banahene has been called up before and if I remember very well he got injured,” Konadu told reporters.

“He has been doing very well in Saudi Arabia and we felt it was right we gave him an opportunity to also come and show us what he has got.

“The Black Stars is for all Ghanaians and so where ever you are and you are doing well we try to give you an opportunity to come and prove yourself.”

The Black Stars will train later today at the Accra Sports Stadium before flying out to Kampala for Saturday’s clash against Uganda.
