Kotoko/Faisal for SWAG Cup

Accra, Sept. 3, GNA - The growing rivalry between city rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and King Faisal, would be revived for the third in the year, when the two sides clash on Wednesday, September 15, to vie for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) challenge cup.

The yearly two-leg encounter would be played just once because both clubs are based in Kumasi and partly due to a tight soccer calendar. Subsequently, the two teams would engage in a straightforward battle to determine the 2004 SWAG Champion.

The annual match dubbed, the "H.P. Nyamitei Challenge Cup", is organised by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) to honour Mr H.P. Nyamitei, a former Deputy Managing Director of State Insurance Company (SIC) Limited and a renowned Sports Administrator.

At stake would be a giant trophy donated by the SIC. Defending Champions Asante Kotoko won the Cup for keeps last year after beating Liberty Professional on both legs.

The match is expected to rekindle the rivalry between the two sides as Faisal at the beginning of the year, beat Kotoko to win the Ghana league Clubs Association (GHALCA) Top Four Competition.

Kotoko reacted with a two-leg victory to axe Faisal from the Special GHALCA Knock Out Competition at the semi-final stage to set the tone for another cracker on September 15.
