Players, officials and management members of Kumasi Asante Kotoko are reported to have been held hostage, by officials of Marina Hotel in Congo Brazzaville.
The Directors of Marina Hotel in Congo are alleged to have refused to let Kotoko go, since the club has not been able to settle their hotel accommodation bill, during their stay in Congo.
The host of Kotoko, AS Police is also alleged to have refused to settle an accumulated bill of $30,000 incurred by Kotoko, since Kotoko rejected the official hotel given them on their arrival. The management of Kotoko has however agreed to pay half of the $30,000 bill prepared for them, with the use of a credit card, which the hotel has also agreed to accept.
Meanwhile, Kotoko has been given up to 3 pm on Tuesday to settle the bills, or their leaders namely; George Amoako, Kwabena Amoako Andoh and others who went to book for the hotel, will be handed over to Congolese Police Officials.
Kotoko left Ghana in advance to play AS Police in the 2002 CAF Cup Winners Cup semi-finals second leg match, which they won 3-2 to qualify for the finals with Wydad of Morrocco. Players and technical official team of Kotoko are expected home on Thursday, to prepare for the first leg of the finals with Wydad Athletic Cassablanca in Morrocco next month.
