Kotoko can win the GPL - Akuffo

Kumasi Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Akuffu has expressed lots of confidence in his team’s ability to retain their Premier League title this season.

The Porcupine Warriors won the Ghana Premier League last term with five matches to spare, but have not been at their best this season. Currently they are four points adrift of table toppers Medeama with 26 points heading into the second round of the league this weekend.

The former Feyenoord Academy product, who has been part of the Kotoko team this season told GBC VRA Radio Sports in Bolgatanga, that Kotoko will build on their exciting win in the Caf Champions League for the second round of the league, adding that he is very sure of the side retaining the premier league gong at the end of the term.

“We will build on that huge win against Sony Ela Nguema in the Caf Champions League in our premier league matches this second round starting with Liberty Professional this Sunday, a match we will be going all out to win to start the second round of the league on a high note,” Akuffu stated.

He added that he has no doubt Kotoko can retain their league title by the close of the 2012-13 season, even though the first round did not go the way they expected.

According to him, the team will be firing from all cylinders to get to the top of the league ladder and stay till it ends.

“A big club like Kotoko wants to win every tournament it participates in, however, with our performance over the weekend in the Caf Champions League it will motivate us to carry that into our domestic league games and I am very sure that the four points difference between us and Medeama is not much for us to overhaul them and retain the league gong,” Akuffu noted.
