Kumasi Asante Kotoko has condemned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his team for fixing some matches between the porcupine warriors and their archrival Accra Hearts of Oaks during the last premier league season.

As part of an investigative work to expose corruption in Ghana’s football, Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team posed as agents of Hearts and bribed the referees who officiated last season’s premiership games between Hearts and Kotoko in Accra.

The centre referee, Samuel Suker took 2,000 cedis bribe to rig the game played on March 19, 2017 in favour of Hearts.

He controversially awarded a penalty in the 84th minute of the match to Hearts of Oak after Awudu Nafiu was flagged to have handled the ball, a penalty that was converted Vincent Atinga to ensure Hearts won the three points.

Following premiering of the investigative documentary by Anas, Management of Kotoko on Wednesday issued a statement to condemn the action of Anas and his team.

“We however strongly condemn Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team for scheming their match fixing scandals to go against Asante Kotoko Sporting Club,” the statement signed by the Executive Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei said.

“We express our utter disgust and disaffection about the conduct of the referees involved in the match fixing scandal which resulted to the poor handling of some league matches notably our match against Accra Hearts of Oak handled by referee Samuel Suker played in Accra last season,” the statement said.

It added: “The painful losses suffered by our club in the said match and other matches through similar machinations are irreparable, irreversible and incalculable”.
