Kumasi, Jan.26, GNA- Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat Real Tamale United (RTU) 3-0 in their Glo Premier League encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday evening.
The first half ended goalless in the match which both teams started with 10 players each. The match was started on a slow note with both sides playing it softly and cautiously until the 20th minute when Stephen Manu of Kotoko wasted a chance in the 21st minute Kotoko, determined to carry the day wasted a lot of opportunities with Stephen Manu and Ofosu Appiah being the worst offenders. In the 30th minute for instance, a free kick taken by Jordan Opoku just outside the RTU vital area was headed over the cross bar by Ofosu Appiah, while RTU in a quick counter saw Taufiq Allolo also missing the target a minute later.
Stephen Manu wasted a chance in the 43rd minute when he failed to head an in-swinger from Charles Boateng to end the half. On resumption, Kotoko improved on their performance and no wonder, Alex Asamoah who took over from Frederick Quayson had the opener for Kotoko when he shot into the net, a perfect header from substitute Louis Agyeman in the 59th minute.
Kotoko who had laid siege in their opponents with a series of incursions for over 15 minutes continued to pile on the pressure. Stephen Manu scored their second goal in the 81st minute when he dribbled through a forest of legs of the defenders and planted the ball on the blind side of goalkeeper Charles Kipo. Alex Asamoah sealed the doom with a third goal in the 84th minute with a 30-metre thunderbolt which caught the goalkeeper stranded.
