Kotoko edge Ashgold in FA Cup

Kumasi Asante Kotoko resurrected their recent poor form after beating AshantiGold 2-0 in the quarterfinal stage of the MTN FA Cup at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

Jackson Owusu and Atta Kusi scored in each half to hand David Duncan’s side a vital victory after winning just one match in four games since the second round of the Ghana Premier League began.

Ghana Premier League leaders AshantiGold had a numerical disadvantage following the expulsion of Osei Baffour towards the end of first half.

The win will be good enough to calm nerves as pressure was mounting on Duncan and his charges, while the Miners would be left disappointed as their dream to dominate the domestic front this season has suffered a jolt.

Kotoko, who won a double last season - the Ghana Premier League and the MTN FA Cup - are yet to repeat that brilliance in the current campaign.

Even though they are mathematically in the race for the league title, that task looks more daunting as compared to the FA Cup where they have reached the semi-finals.

Kotoko will now face Aduana Stars in on July 12 after the latter defeated second-tier side Sekondi Eleven Wise 3-2 to reach the final four.

Meanwhile, former champions Medeama SC came from a goal down to defeat WAFA 3-2 at the Tarkwa T and A Park.

The Yellow and Mauves are scheduled to take on Accra Hearts of Oak in the semi-finals also on July 12.

The winner of the FA Cup will seal a place in the next edition of the Caf Confederation Cup.
