Asante Kotoko have launched an official complaint at the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association concerning their deduction of points by the Disciplinary Committee of the FA.
The disciplinary body on Tuesday upheld Hearts of Oak’s protest against the Porcupine Warriors for fielding Obed Owusu in a Ghana Premier League matchday 25 encounter.
A Dauda Mohammed double in the match played at the Accra Sports Stadium on August 2 gave the Kumasi-based side all three points after an exciting afternoon of football.
However, the aftermath of the game saw Hearts file a protest against Owusu whom the Phobians claimed was to serve a one-match suspension in the match after earlier picking up four yellow cards.
In their defence, Kotoko maintained Owusu had served the suspension in an Elite Cup competition fixture against Dunkwa United.
Nevertheless, the ruling went in favour of Hearts as the Disciplinary Committee explains that games in the cup competition are not considered official matches. Kotoko were docked six points and further fined GH?5,000.
Even so, the Porcupine Warriors are arguing out why the cup competition game, one organised by the FA, would not constitute an official match.
Previously on third place, Kotoko have since fallen into the relegation zone on the 15th position, while Hearts moved out of the zone to the seventh spot with just two rounds of matches to go.
A statement on the club’s official website reads: “Kotoko’s management has filed documents at the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), seeking a reversal of the Disciplinary Committee ruling which docked the club six points in the Hearts of Oak-Obed Owusu case.”
