Ex-Ghana president John Agyekum Kufuor has sparked controversy by claiming Kotoko remains the country’s greatest club and insists rivals Hearts come nowhere.

In assessing the pedigree of the two Ghanaian giants, the former leader claimed Kotoko stand tall among all clubs in the West African country.

The debate as to which of the two powerhouses is the greatest in the country continue to divide opinions with widespread believe that the Porcupine Warriors stand tall in the brewing debate.

On the domestic front, Kotoko has won 23 league titles, three more than their rivals while Hearts have basked in 10 FA Cup crowns, two more than the Kumasi-based side.

Kotoko are twice African champions while Hearts have won one Champions League, one Confederation Cup and one Super Cup on the continent.

While revealing his admiration for the capital-based side, former president John Agyekum Kufuor rated his boyhood club as the greatest among the two teams.

“I respect Hearts of Oak, but in terms of history of the game Hearts of Oak comes nowhere near Asante Kotoko, both teams have won several laurels but Kotoko is the greatest club,” he told Platinum Sports.

The former Ghanaian leader was the board chairman of Kotoko with which he won two titles during his era.
