Kotoko open six-point gap after Medeama trashing

Asante Kotoko will finish the first round of the Ghana Premier League on top after recording a massive 4-1 victory over Medeama on Sunday.

The champions have now opened a six-point lead at the top going into the final match of the first round.

A brace from Seidu Bancey in the first half was followed up by strikes from Jordan Opoku and Prince Baffoe in the second half as Kennedy Boateng got a consolation for the Tarkwa side at the Baba Yara Stadium.

It took 40 minutes before Kotoko opened the scoring through Bancey and four minutes after the opener, he struck again to give the Porcupine Warriors a comfortable 2-nil lead going into the break.

Back from the break, Opoku increased Kotoko's lead three minutes into the restart of the match.

Baffoe also found the back of the net while Boateng pulled one back for Medeama.

At the Wa Park, home side Wa All Stars slipped into the relegation zone following a 3-2 defeat to Heart of Lions.

In Bekwai, Faisal Gambo's equaliser for Dwarfs denied New Edubiase all three points as his goal cancelled out Stephen Manu's 34th minute opener for the home side.
