Kumasi, Sept 21, GNA -- Two former members of the dissolved Board of Directors of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club have expressed worry about unwarranted verbal attacks that are constantly meted out to the Club's officials by some supporters.
Speaking at separate interviews with the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Wednesday, Messrs P.V. Obeng and Kwame Boafo, immediate past Chairman and Secretary of the dissolved Board, said there was the need for supporters to shun such attacks since they were inimical to the club's development and have no apparent reason. Mr Obeng said the time has come for the supporters to appreciate constructive criticism and not malign officials of the Club for their own selfish interest.
He also cautioned the supporters against unsubstantiated allegations calculated to bring the image of some of the club's officials into disrepute. The former Kotoko Board Chairman gave assurance that they would continue to support the team in diverse ways even though they were no longer in office.
Mr Obeng said, "Our loyalty to Kotoko would be unalloyed, notwithstanding the dissolution of the Board. Some of us have been supporters of the Club since our infancy and we will continue to be committed to Kotoko's cause no matter where we find ourselves".
Mr Boafo, who is a member of the new management team appointed by the Asantehene to oversee affairs of the club, charged the supporters to desist from the trading of insults on radio waves.
He called on the supporters to bury their differences and commit resources towards uplifting the Club's development to an appreciable standard.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and Owner of Kotoko, announced the dissolution of the Board at a meeting with the latter at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Tuesday. The 13-member Board of Directors which was constituted by the Asantehene three years ago, among others things, was charged to develop a five-year development plan to enhance the progress of the team.
Many supporters of Kotoko including some former management members have however taken a swipe at the dissolved Board for being apathetic towards the Club's growth, the main reason for which they consistently called for their dissolution.
