The acting General Manager of League and Cup double holders, Samuel Opoku Nti says the club is aiming to reach the money zone of the CAF Champions League in 2015.
He told Kumasi-based Angel FM that even though no team aims to start a journey and not finish, the first step is for Asante Kotoko to reach the Group phase, after which anything is possible.
“Obviously we would not begin such a campaign without the desire to go all the way, but our major aim is to reach the money zone. If we are able to do that, then we can go all the way.”
Opoku Nti, himself a Champions Cup winner with Asante Kotoko in 1983 as a player, also told Angel FM that after two failed attempts to reach the money zone over the last two years, Asante Kotoko now has a good group of players that can cause a stir in Africa.
“It is true that we have not done well in Africa in the last two years, but we have a better team now, and I am confident that we can cause a stir in Africa.”
The former Black Stars captain also revealed to Angel FM that contract talks with defender Abeiku Ainooson were ongoing, noting that the club is confident that Ainooson would put pen to paper on a new contract.
“We have been in talks with Abeiku for some time now and we are mindful of the pitfalls during such discussions. We are however confident that Abeiku will sign a new contract with the club.”
