Asante Kotoko managed a 3-1 victory over their rivals Aduana Stars on Friday at the Sunyani Coronation in the semifinals of the MTN FA Cup to book their ticket to the final of the competition.

Kotoko scored in both halves of the game through former Ebusua Dwarfs defender, Christopher Bonney, before Godfred Saka scored a consolation goal, but Michael Akuffu made victory certain for the champions to see them through the semifinals of the Cup competition.

Aduana Stars started the afternoon on a positive note by making some positive incursions, however they failed to take the chances that came their way.

Kotoko settled into the game to neutralize Aduana’s dominance and after missing an earlier opportunity that came their way, Christopher Bonney stunned the stadium with a magnificent blaster that caught goalkeeper Stephen Adams off guard to give the FA Cup champions the lead in the 35 minute.

Back from recess, both teams improved on their first half display, but it was Kotoko who doubled their lead, following a foul on Dauda Mohammed in the 18-yard box to give them a penalty. Christopher Bonney converted nicely from the spot kick to register a brace.

Aduana Stars pushed more men upfront and pulled one back through Godfred Saka’s penalty in the 83 minute, after the refere spotted a hand ball incident.

Stephen Adams should have been sent off in the late minute, after he fouled a Dauda Mohammed who was the last man, just outside the 18-yard box, but the centre referee surprising flashed a yellow card.

The resultant free was powerfully struck into the net by Michael Akuffu to seal the doom of the Dormaa boys in the 85 minute.

Although, Asante Kotoko are having difficult moments in the Ghana Premier League League, they are enjoying a good run in the MTN FA Cup: beat the league leaders Ashgold 2-0 in the quarters and have today dumped Aduana Stars who are lying 3rd on the league log.

Medeama will take on Hearts of Oak in the other semifinal game on Sunday at the Cape Coast Robert Mensah Sports Stadium and the winner will face Kotoko in the final.
