Ghanaian giants Kotoko will now play Serbian top-flight side Jagodina of Serbia in next week's international friendly after Greek side Veria pulled out of the game because of a fixture clash.

The match will be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on January 3, 2016 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Porcupine Warriors.

The Porcupines were scheduled to host Veria but a last minute hitch, according to the organisers called for the change.

Chief Executive of Office of Pacific Football Ghana Limited, Eric Oppong-Yeboah, whose firm is organizing the game, told Asantekotokosc.com that, they made a quick switch to Serbia for a new opponent in order to carry on their intent of bringing a European side to face Kotoko in Kumasi.

“We’ve suffered some setbacks in trying to get this match played and the last one had to do with changing the opponent because of a last minute hitch. We contacted our agents in Serbia and we had Jagodina ready to come down” said Eric Oppong-Yeboah.

The game is a massive coup for the Porcupine Warriors who will now count themselves as the only side in the Ghanaian top-flight to have attracted a club from Europe to play in Ghana.

The match was originally supposed to be the 80th anniversary friendly for the Porcupines.

But they have shifted it to the game to usher in the New Year and introduce their new players to their teeming supporters in the Garden City ahead of the start of the new season.

It is very rare to have European teams visiting Ghana to play matches and Kotoko have now set the tone with the MTN Challenge Cup match.

The Ghana Football Association has sanctioned the match.
