Former Ghana FA Executive Committee member Kudjoe Fianoo says the bonuses paid to the Black Stars players must be varied per the importance of matches they play.
Each Black Stars player is handed $10,000 for winning competitive matches while a flat fee of $5000 is paid for friendly matches regardless of the opposition.
But Kudjoe Fianoo who only recently served as the Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee is urging drastic reforms in the payment of these bonuses.
According to the AshantiGold Chief Executive Officer, matches against big teams should attract the payment of higher bonuses while less is played to less fancied sides.
“I believe we need to look at the money we put into the team,” Fianoo told Kumasi-based Boss FM.
“For instance, in one of the preparatory games ahead of the 2015 AFCON, I think we played against a club in Portugal which even didn’t have names on the back of their jerseys and yet we paid $5000 as appearance fee for each player.
“I think for matches of these nature it is probably on the high side to pay such an amount.
“We need to differentiate between paying high bonuses for serious matches and that of competitive games.
“These are part of the reasons why we have a bad name and I believe we must review things.”
Fianoo’s comments reignited the debate as to whether the bonuses paid to the Black Stars should be slashed as being speculated in the media.
Reports suggests that the Sports Ministry are making attempts to have the $10,000 winning bonus paid to the players for competitive matches cut by a staggering 50%.
