Mohammed Kudus’ tough start to the season hit another low as he was taken off at halftime in West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

After a stunning debut season where he scored eight goals and provided six assists, the Ghana midfielder has yet to find his feet under new manager Julen Lopetegui.

Kudus, who played the first half on the wing, was replaced by Carlos Soler during the break, leaving many to wonder if he’s being used in the right role.

The 24-year-old showed no signs of injury, so it seemed like a tactical decision. Kudus has been primarily deployed out wide this season, but it's clear that he’s struggling to make an impact in that position.

Last season, under former manager David Moyes, Kudus flourished in more central roles, playing across the front three and in his preferred attacking midfield spot. His versatility and creativity made him one of West Ham’s key players. But this season has been different. Used mainly on the wings, Kudus looks uncomfortable and out of sync with his teammates.

His frustrations have become more visible as the games go by. His body language during matches hints at his growing discontent, and his reaction when a goal was disallowed against Chelsea said it all.
