Kuffour and Essien named among African Legends in UEFA Champions League

Ghana duo Michael Essien and Sammy Osei Kuffour made the list for the most capped African players in the UEFA Champions League.

The pair were ranked among the top 10 African footballers who have been described as the African legends in the European competition after making most appearances for their former Clubs.

Essien, 32, was ranked third on the list after making 76 appearances in the UEFA Champions League for English giants Chelsea.

Kuffour, who is one of the celebrated Ghanaian footballers after a successful spell with German Club Bayern Munich was also ranked 4th after making 73 appearances in the European competition for the Bundesliga side.

Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast star Didier Drogba who holds the record as the highest African scorer in the competition topped the list with 94 caps, followed by ex-Cameroonian international Samuel Eto’o who was able to make 82 appearances for Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Other players who made the list include former Nigerian international Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Eboue, Seydou Keita, Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure, Solomon Kalou and John Mikel Obi.
