The Chairman of the National Media Commission cum Kotoko Express has kicked against the idea to appoint Samuel Osei Kuffour as the president of Kumasi Asante Kotoko indicating that the team would struggle more under his leadership than the Opoku Nti led management committee.

Osei Kuffour came close to landing the Asante Kotoko job, but it stalled after the former Bayern Munich defender granted a TV interview that he had been appointed as the president of the club, an action which was seen to be an act of disrespect to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for coming public with a conversation that took place between them, before the official announcement.

Although Kuffour is a board member of Kotoko and a prospective chairman of the club, Kabral-Blay Amihere, a board member and chairman of the official mouthpiece of the Porcupine warriors thinks Osei Kuffour is not the right person to head the management team of Kotoko, because he lacks managerial acumen like the incumbent, Opoku Nti.

“If Kotoko is handed over to Osei Kuffour, we will go down more than the Opoku Nti led administration.

“Kuffour like Opoku Nti played football, but they don’t have the managerial skills to lead the club. Look at Dr. K.K Sarpong, although he didn’t play football, he was able to put in place structures that helped Kotoko to excel and Kotoko would have been miles ahead, if not the misunderstanding he had with Otumfuo,” he said.

The Board and Management of Kotoko were recently asked by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to submit a report on their tenure of office and that would determine their future with the club.
