TOKYO, November 27 (DS) - Bayern Munich worked very hard to break the opposition of the ten Argentineans from Boca Juniors in the match for the title of the strongest club of the world, until in the 110th minute the European champion's defender Sammy Kuffour scored the victorious goal. Just after the match the happy holders of the Intercontinental Cup and the less happy Maradona shared their impressions with the correspondent of Sport 1.
Sammy Kuffour: "I'm happy for our today's victory. I devote the scored goal to my son and my wife, and give my car to my mother."
Oliver Kahn: "Now we are the strongest in the world."
Ottmar Hitzfeld: "We were strong in standard situations and could score sooner. I'm very glad that the thing didn't come to penalties. Victory in the Intercontinental Cup match is of benefit and of great prestige for the team."
Uli Hoeness: " The Argentineans tried to be rough in every duel and provoked us to similar treatment. But it's good that the arbiter didn't take the bait. One will always be careful with Argentinean teams, they fight beyond forbidden."
Diego Maradona: "For the arbiter the fortune of the match was clear long before the final whistle."
Kuffour delighted with match-winning performance
Sammy Kuffour was delighted with his extra-time winner in the World Club championship on Tuesday that finally put an end to ten-man Boca Juniors resistance. "I am so happy that I was scored the winner, I want to dedicate the goal to my son and wife," he said. The Ghanaian struck with 20 minutes remaining in extra time to lift his side past the Libertadores Cup winners and earn himself a car, sponsored by Toyota, for his man-of-the-match performance.
"It's cool that I won the car. I'll give it to my mum who still lives in Ghana," Kuffour said.
Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, who won the title while director of sport at Borussia Dortmund in 1997, added:
"I was always confident that we'd score as we were especially dangerous at set-pieces and the Argentinians were not very impressive in the air."
