Ghanaian football player Samuel Osei Kuffour has suffered a major tragedy after his 15-month old daughter drowned in his East Legon home swimming pool in Accra yesterday.
The former Black Stars deputy captain who had left Ghana a day before the incident returned home last night in a special chartered plane made available by his German club side Bayern Munich.
Kuffour has declined comment about the death of the girl named Gaudiva it's believed she drowned in the player’s swimming pool after she was left unattended to by the house attendants.
Gaudiva is the first daughter of his marriage to wife Francesca. The player has another daughter but the death of Gaudiva who has speaks of with so much passion would be a terrible blow.
His club side Bayern Munich says they would allow him as much time as possible to recover from the loss and get back to helping Bayern in their quest to win the German league title.
Bayern General Manager Uli Hoeness said: "This is a bad start to 2003 for us,".Kuffour has been at Bayern since 1993 and has developed into a regular member of the side that regarded as the best in German and one of the best in Europe too.
Police have meanwhile instituted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
