Kuffuor Hangs His Boots

Samuel Osei Kuffuor has finally admitted his playing career is over after strenuously denying the last publication that suggested he had called time on his career.

The former Bayern Munich defender told KickOffGhana.com exclusively that he will not be playing football again, a year and a half after he denied reports he has quit.

“My mind is tired, my body is tired, there is time for everything. You don’t need to force yourself to do things you are not capable of doing anymore. I have been in the system for 18 years and I think it is enough. It is time for me to just concentrate on my family,” he said.

Kuffuor last played for Ajax on loan in 2008 from AS Roma but he made his name with Bayern Munich where he spent twelve years.

He helped Bayern claim seven Bundesliga titles, four Cups and five League Cups, while he was also part of the Champions League and Intercontinental Cup winning squads in 2001.

He also represented Ghana at every level including the senior World Cup but his final appearance is not one he will remember fondly after his mistake led to Italy’s second goal in the 2-0 loss in Ghana’s first ever game at the World Cup.
