Kumordzi inks Genk contract extension

Belgian side KRC Genk have fenced off Italian Serie A side Chievo Verona from signing Ghana international midfielder Bennard Kumordzi by tying him down with a deal that will keep him at the club until 2017, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The 29-year-old officially signed the deal to prolong his career at the Cristal Arena for two more seasons.

“There were interests from Italy and France as reported but my club have convinced me to commit my future for further seasons and I hope things go just right in the coming season,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

The influential lanky midfielder appeared on the wish list of Serie A side Chievo Verona for the summer transfer market and the club officially made contacts but have had their bid rejected and the midfielder staying.

Newly promoted French Ligue 1 sides Caen and Metz had also reported their interest but the versatile midfielder who joined Genk from Dijon reveals he was not very enthused with a return to France.

“Not really interested in going back to France. I think I want to stay here and make an impact in the coming season.”

Kumordzi steered Genk to title success on his first season with the club as he guided them to triumph in the Belgian Cup and qualifying the club for Uefa Europa League football.
