Former Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffour is tipping Black Stars midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah to steal the show at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The ex-defender said he believes the midfielder holds the key to Ghana's success at the 29th edition of the continental showpiece.
“The player that everybody has to watch is Kwadwo Asamoah,” Kuffour told Goal.com Ghana. “This 2013 Afcon is his tournament.”
The Juventus player’s form for Ghana in tournaments has come under heavy scrutiny as fans and pundits continue to wonder why his club form is not replicated at national level.
However, the former Bayer Munich guardsman believes the 2013 Afcon will provide Asamoah with the perfect opportunity to cement his place as one of Africa’s best.
“He has to put Ghana on his shoulders and do the nation proud. The way he is playing at Juventus is amazing and this is the time for him to prove to Ghanaians that he has what it takes on a big stage.”
Kuffour added: “No matter what the situation, he has to go to South Africa and deliver and play very well. I wish him all the best and I believe he will deliver.”
Coach Kwesi Appiah and Ghanaians will be counting on the rich form of Asamoah since Olympique Marseille’s Andre Ayew could not make it to the tournament due to injury.
Asamoah has established himself as one of Serie A finest midfielders and he is highly expected to spearhead the four-time African champions to end the 31-year trophy drought during the 2013 Afcon.
