Kwarasey refuses to reveal his future with Ghana

Ghana goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey is refusing to reveal his future with the Black Stars after meeting Black Stars coach Avram Grant insisting his encounter with the former Chelsea manager ‘wasn’t anything special’.

The Portland Timbers goalkeeper was speaking for the first time since meeting Ghana coach Avram Grant but declined to discuss his future with the Black Stars team after the meeting with the manager of the four-time African champions.

The shot-stopper is staying tight-lipped about the details of the meeting with Ghana national team manager Avram Grant over the weekend.

Kwarasey insists he will keep the details of his meeting with the coach close to his chest but gave a slight hint that there could be further talks about his possible return for the Black Stars saying: “We’ll see where it goes from our meeting.”

Grant was on hand at Yankee Stadium for the Timbers’ 1-0 victory on Sunday night and met with Kwarasey, who acrimoniously left the Black Stars after their disappointing World Cup run last summer, after the match to reportedly discuss his return to the team.

The Portland Timbers goalkeeper has not been involved with the Black Stars since reportedly quitting the team after the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

After Portland’s training session on Wednesday, their first back at the team facility following their return from the win over New York, Kwarasey confirmed the meeting but offered little in the way of details.

“It went OK; it wasn’t anything special,” said former Stromsgodset star Kwarasey.

“We just had a short chat, and that was it.”

When quizzed further, 22-time international Kwarasey added: “That’s between me and him. We’ll see where it goes from our meeting.”

Grant took over the Ghanaian outfit for former manager Maxwell Konadu in November of last year and has been on a Stateside scouting trip of late. The

Timbers also recently acquired Ghanaian international midfielder Ishmael Yartey, who saw his first action for Portland on Sunday with a start and 74-minute shift.

The last Black Stars appearance for Kwarasey, who was born in Norway to a Ghanian father and Norwegian mother, came in their World Cup-opening 2-1 loss to the United States, after which he criticized the technical staff’s selection process and said he would no longer play for Ghana as long as goalkeepers coach Nassamu Yakubu remained with the team.

A Ghana FA spokesman said Kwarasey and Grant had a frank discussion about the goalkeeper’s concerns and that he would always be welcomed back to the team but would have to fight for the No. 1 spot.
