Ghana goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey returned to the Portland Timbers set-up as they beat Gershon Koffie’s 2-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps to reach the Western Conference playoff final.
Kwarasey, who missed the first leg due to illness, boosted the defence and kept a clean sheet in the big win in front of a sell-out crowd at BC Place on Sunday night.
The Timbers struck first in the 31st minute when forward Fanendo Adi powered a one-time effort past Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted off of a pinpoint pass from Diego Valeri.
The goal was Adi’s first of the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Midfielder Diego Chara then iced the match in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, finishing calmly past Ousted after receiving a pass from Adi.
Portland Timbers will play FC Dallas in the 1st leg at Providence Park on 22 November.
