Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko player, Charles Taylor, has lambasted the head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, over his poor managerial skills, which have led to the abysmal performances of the Black Stars in recent times.
According to him, Addo’s inability to properly utilize the talented players in the Black Stars to win games and his struggles with the team expose his mediocre coaching prowess.
The legendary Black Stars player stated that Sudan coach, James Kwasi Appiah, showed that he is more competent than Otto Addo after his side, with fewer top players, was able to defeat Ghana 2-0 at a neutral ground.
Taylor further slammed Otto Addo for not giving local players the chance to play matches when called up to the team, adding that over-reliance on experienced players has not been helpful.
“When you have a coach who does not know how to utilize the talented players, it is difficult for the team to flourish. He always fails to admit his mistakes. Kwasi Appiah has shown him. I have said countless times that Kwasi Appiah is far better than Otto Addo.
“With the Black Stars team players, we need competent coaches to manage the wealth of players we have. We don’t rely on experienced players for qualifiers, but quality ones. Most of the local players called don’t get the chance to play, but they deserve an opportunity,” he said in Twi in a video shared by Saddick Adams on YouTube.
This comes after the Black Stars lost to Sudan by two goals to zero in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
After four matches played, Ghana are third in Group F with two points, Sudan in second place with seven points, while Angola lead with twelve points.
The Black Stars will travel to face Angola and play the last match against Niger in Ghana.
