The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member, Dr. Randy Abbey, has raised concerns about his colleague, Kwasi Appiah, playing two roles simultaneously.
According to him, Kwasi Appiah being the head coach of Sudan and at the same time being a member of the Executive Council of the GFA does not augur well for the nation.
The host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV asserted that it would be prudent for the former Black Stars coach to quit one role and solely focus on the other for his own sake.
Speaking on Metro TV regarding Appiah’s dual role, Randy Abbey said, “Kwasi Appiah’s dual role as coach of Sudan and Executive Council Member of the GFA is an untidy situation.”
Pressure on Appiah has increased since his team, Sudan, was drawn into the same group as Ghana for the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
Despite the criticism and concerns about a potential conflict of interest, Appiah remains in his role.
It remains uncertain whether he will eventually resign.
The Black Stars will take on Sudan on October 11, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council (Exco) member, Dr Randy Abbey has revealed that Sudan head coach James Kwasi Appiah has not attended any Exco meetings since the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying draw.
Kwasi Appiah was elected onto the Exco in 2023 after amassing 10 votes. He qualified for the role due to his position as a member of Asante Kotoko's Interm Management Committee.
Dr Randy Abbey believes the former Black Stars manager's absence is to avoid conversation about the forthcoming Ghana-Sudan 2025 AFCON qualifier.
“My friend Kwasi Appiah hasn’t attended any Exco merging since the draw. I’m sure he’s excusing himself because he knows issues of the game will be discussed. Well, his situation is an untidy one,” he told Metro TV.
Ghana were drawn in Group F for the AFCON qualifiers draw in July 2024 along with Angola, Niger, and Sudan.
The Black Stars are winless in their first two games and will hope to get back to winning ways when they face Sudan on matchday three of the qualifiers.
Ghana will face Sudan in a doubleheader with the first leg slated for October 11 and the return leg on October 14, 2024.
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association is the highest decision-making body in Ghana football. It comprises 22 members, including the President of the GFA.
