Kweku Essien nets Osnabrueck deal

Ghana under-23 midfielder Kweku Essien has ended his search for European club by agreeing a deal with German second division side VfL Osnabrueck.

The 22-year-old, who was voted the best player in Ghana’s Premier League, was registered by the newly-promoted side before the close of yesterday’s transfer window.

Osnabrueck agreed to sign the highly-rated player on a one-year loan deal from Ghanaian side Maamobi-Midjylland.

“We have agreed to release Kweku Essien to go on loan to Osnabrueck for one season,” vice president of Maamobi-Midjylland, Alhaji Gigi Mohammed said.

Even though the midfielder has been registered to play for the club next season, he must pass a medical on Monday before the deal is sealed.

But he is expected to go through the medical without a hitch as he passed a similar exercise in Austria last month before Graz AK pulled out of the deal.

The move is a relief for the midfielder who spent the summer on trials with five clubs in Europe.

Osnabrueck have the first option to sign Kweku Essien when the loan deal expires.

Osnabrueck currently occupy the 8th position in Bundesliga Two after three matches in the 18-team league.
