Kwesi Appiah is up for English League Two award

Ghanaian striker Kwesi Appiah is in the running for the English League Two Player of the Month award for October.

The striker has been in fine form for Cambridge United, netting three goals last month to take his tally for the campaign to five, as well as doing his bit to set up several goals as Richard Money’s side remain the division’s top scorers.

Appiah, who is on loan from Crystal Palace, faces competition from Luton marksman Mark Cullen, Plymouth defender Carl McHugh and Carlisle midfielder Brad Potts for the honour.

Cullen bagged five goals in October for the Hatters, including a perfect hat-trick of a header followed by right-footed and left-footed goals in their 3-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

McHugh switched from left-back to central defence and prevented Argyle from conceding a goal last month, while Potts’ performances have coincided with Carlisle’s move up the table.

The award will be judged by Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman, the League head of communications John Nagle, League Managers’ Association director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet football trading manager Paul Lowery, with the result being announced on Friday.
