Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has recalled Ayew brothers Andre and Jordan for this month's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia on November 18, 2018.
Even though the official squad will be released next week, our sources say Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, has finally decided to invite the duo after a peaceful and successful phone conversation with the players sometime last month.
This will be the first time in over a year that the Ayew bothers will be returning to the senior National Team.
Jordan and Andre have in recent weeks been left out of the Black Stars despite their sterling performances for their club sides fueling the perception that the coach was unhappy with the players because their performances merited a call-up.
The coach had insisted that there was no bad blood between him and the players, adding that his decision to leave out some big-name players in previous call-ups was purely tactical.
Coach Kwasi Appiah has recently turned to some of his trusted and most experienced players after the Black Stars lost 1-0 to Kenya in the 2019 AFCON qualifier.
A double-header with Sierra Leon in October was cancelled at the last minute leaving Ghana’s qualification in a bit of a quandary, but more importantly the squad for that game saw the return of the likes of John Boye, Johnathan Mensah, Mubarak Wakaso and Asamoah Gyan – all of whom had been overlooked in some of the games prior.
With coach Kwasi Appiah fully aware that he needs to qualify and win the 2019 Africa Cup to be staged in Cameroon, the return of the Ayew brothers is the biggest indication yet that coach Appiah is not leaving anything to chance in the quest to achieve his targets.
