President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi has reaffirmed his decision not to contest for the seat again in 2019.

The astute legal practitioner has been in the role for 10 years, with further two to go but he believes it is for somebody new to step up and bring fresh ideas to the table hence he will not contest again when his current tenure elapses in 2019.

And when quizzed on Accra-based Asempa FM whether he will keep his promise of not contesting in 2019, Nyantakyi said, “I hope so, I hope so, I have done my best and I definitely will not be at the FA forever because it’s not a chieftaincy position where I will occupy until I’m dead.”

Nyantakyi is regarded as the most successful Ghana Football Association boss since its establishment in 1957. Under his presidency, Ghana qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the first for the country. Ghana again qualified for the subsequent 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The Ghana U-20 football team also won Africa's first and only U-20 World Cup also during his stewardship in 2009.
