The first semi-final has been decided and its Senegal who are through to the finals on Sunday.

But who will be their opponents on the day. Is it going to be an all-West African affair or it will be West Africa versus North Africa.

Nigeria and Algeria face off in a contest that will decide which side will play in the final Sunday July 21..

Nigeria have won seven of the last nine games between these sides but Algeria have been incredible in this tournament and it will take something special for Rohr’s men to get a victory today.

In five games played, Algeria have won four and conceded once. The goal came in their quarterfinal game against Ivory Coast.

Nice right-back Youcef Atal will be a loss after he was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament but the they have enough quality in their ranks to find a solid replacement.

"We want to write our history. And the players want to write their history as well. It's not far — two more steps, but two very difficult steps to this great achievement. We will try our best”, said manager Djamel Belmadi.

The Super Eagles have been astonishing after losing to Madagascar in the final group game. They have defeated Cameroon and South Africa on their to the semis and have shown some nice attacking play with Wilfred Ndidi being their anchor.

The two sides met in 2017 in a world cup and qualifier and Nigeria defeated Algeria 2-1 but Rohr believes his charges are coming up against a different Algeria side tonight.

"They were fragile at the time," he said. "We beat them 3-1 and there were lots of individual mistakes, they made it easy for us...in the return match they were also fragile. Now they are solid, they have a good balance between attack and defence, they are still very physical and they have progressed a lot”.
