LIVE UPDATES: Senegal vs Algeria (2019 AFCON finals)

It has been four weeks of thrilling actions and we hope that Senegal and Algeria will give us a befitting climax.

The Black Stars may have missed out on the final but at least there is a Ghanaian element in today’s line up of activities.

Afro Pop singer Fuse ODG will perform at the closing ceremony while former GFA Communications Director, Saanie Daara is the chief communications officer for today’s game.

On the field, it is a replay of the Group C match that ended 1-0 in favour of Algeria in what could be a repeat or revenge depending on where you stand.

However, the stakes are different today. Senegal are looking to make history by winning their first AFCON while Algeria’s star-filled side want to repeat the glory of the 1990 AFCON heroes.

Algeria have been invisible on their way to the finals and unlike Senegal who have sometimes looked disjointed and uninspiring, the Algerians have been amazing and Mahrez’s last-minute goal against Nigeria sums up the quality in the team.

Senegal as mentioned earlier have failed to meet expectations with their performances but they have done the needful – scrapping wins but against a well-organized Algerian side, Aliou Cisse’s men will have to give off their best show to nick this one.

The hope of the two nations rests on two of Africa football’s superstars who have so far shone at the tournament with three goal each.

Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane are in the hunt for the goal king award and hat-trick today will make them outright winners of coveted accolade.

On the technical bench, it’s a clash of two former players who have done so well to send their countries to this level.

Djamel Belmadi and Aliou Cisse meet in what is the fifth meeting of an-all African coaches at the finals of the AFCON.

We anticipating a riveting and keenly contested game worthy of a final of the first 24-team AFCON tournament.
