Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has called for calm following the Black Stars’ defeat by the Pharaohs of Egypt in the second game of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Mohammed Salah converted a penalty in the 43rd minute of the game after Harrison Afful clipped the heel of Mahmoud Trezeguet, and Abdallah El Said doubled their advantage in the dying embers with a low shot past the hapless Razak Brimah to put the game beyond the reach of the Ghanaians.
The defeat extended the Stars winless run to five games, however, Laryea Kingston believes the Black Stars will come good in their subsequent games in the group to book a ticket to the global football fiesta in Russia.
“The boys gave their all in the game but lacked the cutting edge when they get to the goal area of Egypt. I know people will be worried with results but trust me, with the players we possess in our team, missing the world cup is not an option. This is just a setback, I still believe we can qualify to Russia,” Laryea exclusively told football Ghana.com
“There is no doubt that we missed Asamoah Gyan because you could see from their defenders’ demeanor. They virtually had nothing to chase in the game, but like I said we shouldn’t press the panic button because we have four more games to play in the group.”
The defeat at the Borg El-Arab stadium leaves the Stars in third position in the group with Egypt and Uganda occupy first and second spots respectively and Congo last.
