Lawrence Lartey and his Ajax Cape Town side got eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after a 2-0 defeat at home to Angolan side GD Sagrada Esperanca.

The Urban Warriors were holding a 2-1 first leg win and were the overwhelming favourites at the Athlone Stadium.

Lartey played the entire duration as a brace from Arsenio Cabungula secured a 2-3 aggregate win for the visitors.

Esperanca scored a goal against the run of play when a lobbed cross found Cabungula at the far post who netted with his head.

Ajax continued with their possession football and started creating more chances but were unable to find the back of the net.

The second half saw much of the same as Ajax camped in Esperanca’s half, moving the ball across the pitch, still without any end product.

The match seemed to have been dead and buried in Ajax’s favour until Cabungula stepped up for the visitors once again to put Esperanca 2-3 ahead on aggregate.
