Lawyer of Kwesi Appiah, Kojo Graham has hinted at an imminent court action against the Ghana FA over the ‘unfair’ dismissal of his client as coach of the Black Stars.
The 54-year-old was handed his letter of termination on September 17 in which no reason was given for his dismissal.
The ex-Ghana captain was sacked within 24 hours of leading the Black Stars to a vital win over Togo in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.
Appiah had signed a fresh two-year deal with the GFA to continue as coach of the Ghana national team a few weeks to the start of the 2014 World Cup.
And despite the team’s disappointing first round exit from the tournament staged in Brazil, the Ghana FA initially declared its full support for Kwesi Appiah.
This support however faded very quickly with the Executive Committee reaching a decision to dismiss Appiah in a move the Ghana FA announced as ‘mutual’.
The GFA is now in the process to of agreeing a severance package with Appiah but his lawyer Kojo Graham hints his client could take David Duncan’s route against Hearts of Oak for unfair termination of his contract.
“Yes we have received a letter from the FA over the termination of the contract but it didn’t state the reason of termination,” Appiah’s lawyer told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“From the face of it, I can say the termination was unfair and therefore we will look at the issue in its entirety and advice ourselves on what to do.
“We will look at precedence and decisions taken – in particular the outcome of the case of David Duncan.
“We will look at the laws of Ghana especially laws pertaining labour and employment.
“Even the contract itself had provisions for termination and we are surprised the GFA did not resort to these provisions.
“The labour act for instance and some Supreme Court rulings in the past have addressed such issues so we will consider all our options this weekend and then come out with our next line of action by next week.”
