League to go on break after Week Ten matches

Accra, Jan 15, GNA - The ongoing Glo Premier League will take a temporary break after the tenth week matches to enable the local components of the Black Stars participate in the maiden edition of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) scheduled for February 22 to March 8, 2009 in Cote D' Voire.

The new development is expected to bring drastic changes to the first round fixtures of the premiership which was scheduled to end on March 8.

Information gathered by the GNA Sports from the Premier League Board (PLB), said there are strong indications that most of the participating clubs in the League are likely to provide the national team with more players hence the need to reschedule the fixtures. The CHAN championship, an innovation by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) aims at providing the platform for players plying their trade on the local scene in their respective countries to exhibit their talent.

With the regulations guiding the League, clubs have the right to call for postponement on condition that they supply the national team with more than three players. The PLB will therefore once again make a further review of the fixtures to meet the demands of the new development, according a PLB source.

According to the source at the PLB, the League is expected to resume with Mid-Week matches from Wednesday, March 11, 2009, three days after the completion of the competition. There are indications that the PLB might introduce more mid-week matches to make up for the lost weeks as a result of the break.
