Ace Ghanaian sports broadcaster Saddick Adams has urged legendary Ghanaian footballer Asamoah Gyan to be mindful of his actions, as any move by him will be viewed through the lens of partisan politics.

Reacting to Gyan’s decision to resign from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sports Obama, as he is widely known, encouraged Asamoah Gyan to appreciate the nature of Ghanaian politics and act accordingly.

Obama, who defended Asamoah Gyan’s decision to venture into politics, decried his decision to resign, stating that he feels let down.

He urged Gyan to glean lessons from the likes of Tony Baffoe and Sammy Kuffour, who have remained apolitical since hanging up their boots.

“When Asamoah Gyan started doing politics, I was one of the people who defended him. People attacked him, but I defended him because he had the right to do that and had also shown commitment to the country. I supported him because I believed he would understand and appreciate the issues of sports better.

“I have seen a few things that I’m not really proud of. The little mistake I made was that I never considered Gyan’s reasons for entering into politics. I also didn’t take into consideration the nature of our politics. I want to plead with him to remember the sacrifices he made and not allow anything to destroy his reputation.

“I have seen some videos and a few things that I’m not really proud of. He should take caution with some of the things he is doing.

“There are a lot of speculations, and I don’t think it’s good for his reputation. He should take caution and be mindful of his place in society. He should learn from the likes of Tony Baffoe and Sammy Kuffour, who realized that this country is politically polarized. Today, I feel betrayed because I defended him,” Obama said.

His comments come on the back of Asamoah Gyan’s announcement that he is no longer affiliated with any political party.

"I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth, I am not affiliated with any political party.

"I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on December 7. God bless our homeland Ghana. Thank you," Gyan posted alongside the statement.
