Lee Manuel, a Liberian heavy weight boxer based in Spain has challenged the winner of the upcoming big fight between Bukom Banku and Jon Napari of the Ghana Armed Foces.
Lee Manuel who las fought in Ghana in 2005 said he had been hungry for fights as nobody wants to fight him because most boxers in his weight class fear him.
According to sources close to Lee Manuel, he had been following boxing in Africa very well and he believes Ghana has the best boxers and fighters on the continent of Africa and he is prepared to come down to fight Bukom Banku of Napari if he wins.
PRO of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Naa Darkua Dodoo who recently returned to Ghana from the Commonwealth Games in Scotland said she is aware of the Lee Manuel challenge and wants the fight to come on to boast boxing in Ghana.
She noted that the recent fight between Ayitey Powers and Bukom Banku has raised the image of Ghana boxing, whilst the victory of Raymond Commey to win the Commonwealth Featherweight title has raised boxing hopes and aspirations.
According to Naa Darkua, Ghana has many talented boxers and appealed to promoters to come on board to stage fights for the boxers who are starved with fights. She said the GBA is ready to sanction all fights so far as they are logical, lawful and within the regulations of the Authority.
She urged the media to promote boxing because it is the sport that can give the nation laurels.
Meanwhile, the bout between Bukom Banku and John Napari has generated more heat as both boxers taunt each other with words.
