Leonard Myles-Mills Win 60m

TAMPERE, Finland (AP) - Leonard Myles-Mills of Ghana took the men's 60 in 6.64, but was beaten in the 100 by Christopher Williams of Jamaica (10.34) on Monday night at an indoor track and field meet in Tampere, Finland.

Forty-year-old Merlene Ottey of Jamaica not only is still winning races - she's winning two events at the same meet.

Ottey equaled her best time of the year in winning the 60 meters in 7.20 seconds and she took the 100 in 11.21.

``The 100 was better than the 60,'' Ottey said. ``With shorter reaction times at the start, the times would have been better. I was still in the blocks when the rest were on their way.''

At 100 meters, Ottey was only .06 seconds off the world record of 11.15, set by Marita Koch of the former East Germany in 1980, and .03 seconds off the meet record held by Christine Arron of France.

Dimitri Bogdanov of Russia took the men's 800 at 1:46.45, the third-fastest indoor time this year.

Jacques Freitag, 18, of South Africa, and Oskari Frosen of Finland tied in the high jump at 7 feet, 41/2 inches. Charles Austin, the 1996 Olympic gold medalist, took only one jump, at 7-7, and missed.

Miroslav Menc of the Czech Republic won the shot put at 67-71/2, the fourth-best result this year.
