Accra, Jan 10, GNA - Dr Kofi Amoah, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations has appealed to Ghanaians to ensure that fair play permeates the biennial event. He told GNA Sports that "it behoves on us to ensure that the competition is conducted in a fair-play manner in our quest to deliver a fabulous tourney."
The Chairman articulated his idea of fair play as granting all the 16 participating teams equal attention and support that would make the teams feel at home during the three-week fiesta.
"It is crucial that we evenly support and cheer all the participating teams at all the venues in a true manner of fair play. "Though Ghana will want to win the trophy, it is important to put on our traditional hospitality cloth to ensure that we succeed in producing a great event."
Dr Amoah said the LOC and Ghanaians would ensure their part of fair play outside the field whilst the players and match officials carry out their own on the field.
He emphasized on the need for lovers of the globular leather to fill all the four arenas of Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale, during the competition that pieces Africa's best 16 teams together. "The time has come for us to prove that we are really a soccer loving nation. But we cannot afford to patronize only Ghana related games and forget about the rest when we have a point to prove."
Ghana 2008 is envisaged as the best tourney yet to come with over one million visitors estimated to turn out for the competition.
