Former King Faisal coach Mallam Yahaya has called upon Ghanaians to offer the needed support to Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah ahead of 2019 African Cup of Nations.
Kwesi Appiah, who had a coaching stint with Sudanese side Khartoum FC will lead the senior national team, the Black Stars of Ghana to the upcoming Total Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt which is slated for June. He has been tasked to end Ghana's trophy drought since winning the trophy in 1982.
The 56-year-old was in-charge in last two editions of AFCON where Ghana lost on penalty shootouts to Cotè d'Ivoire in the final. His second coming has mounted pressure from different angles as he is mandated to win the trophy else shown the exit door.
But Mallam Yahaya is calling Ghanaians and the technical staff of Black Stars to back Kwesi Appiah. A duty he believes will open doors for locally based coaches to be offered the Black Stars job above the expatriots.
"Let's all Ghanaians rally behind coach Kwesi Appiah to win the AFCON 2019". Because it would be good and create opportunities for we the Ghanaian coaches to get the National teams to manage in future", he said to Kumasi based Ashh FM.
"Kwesi Appiah is a very good coach and I know with the help of his technical team and the support from Ghanaians, Afcon 2019 will be ours", he stated
Coach James Kwasi Appiah has barely two months to invite his players to work hard ahead of the tournament.
