Accra, Aug 7 -GNA- Kpando Heart of Lions on Thursday lost 2-0 to Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium in the 12th week Kinapharma Premier League.
The defeat is the third successive one suffered by the newly promoted club since they performed the giant killing task of beating league leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko by a lone goal at Kpando in a 10th week match.
Playing at home Liberty had greater part of the exchanges with Asamoah Gyan coming close in the fifth minute but the budding striker failed to find the net as keeper Sumaila Abdul saved the situation for his side.
Gyan made no mistake in the 13th minute when he pounced on a lose ball and placed it in the far corner of the goal for the first goal. The visitors protested vehemently against the goal, arguing that it was scored from an off side position because the first assistant had raised his flag but was ignored by referee G. Muller-Nyarko of Manpong. The angry players resumed play after the protest but could not get the equaliser till the end of the first half.
Coach Silas Tetteh of Liberty made two substitutions in the second half, which paid off him as he introduced George Yamoah and Eric Bekoe for Alfred Nii Larbi and skipper Addoquaye Pappoe respectively. Bekoe increased the tally for his side when he delivered a long, powerful drive, which keeper Abdul failed to save first time and as he struggled to prevent the ball from entering the net, it bounced into the far corner, leaving him helpless.
The goal sealed the doom of the Lions because the Liberty defence cut off most of the efforts they made at getting a consolation goal. The win by Liberty gives them 21 points to occupy the fourth position on the table while Lions remain at the ninth position with 19 points.
