Lions’ chief Ahiakpor targets Top 4 return

Heart of Lions founder, owner
and bankroller Godwin Kwame Ahiakpor, famously called ‘Victor Abramovich’ is
keen to see his side return to the top table of Ghana football after an
otherwise poor outing last season.

Sensational Heart of Lions
have roared ever loud since joining the nation’s top flight football division a
decade ago and have often finished within the Top 4 bracket season after
season, but it was a different story last term.
The Kpando based club
finished just two places above the relegation zone in 12th spot
after garnering a paltry 34 points from 30 games. Now Victor Ahiakpor has vowed
never to see a repeat but rather supervise a Lions revival.
“Last season was a very bad
season for us because since we joined the league, we always finished in the Top
4. So as we prepare for next season, the target is to get back there and not
necessarily to win the league,” Ahiakpor said in an interview.
He added: “As usual, we look
to send more young ones out abroad and unearth more talents so we want to play
well in the league and also produce very good young players for the junior
national teams,” Ahiakpor said in an interview.
In a related development, new Lions coach Sarfo Castro is
buzzing with excitement at the club’s pre-season form ahead of their 2012/13
tough opening day tie at immediate former champions Berekum Chelsea.

“There have been a lot of improvement and I’m very happy about
it. I believe we will be ready for the Chelsea test when the league starts.
Now, Victor has decided to participate fully in the club and that is helping
the boys a lot,” Castro added.
