Accra, Oct. 5, GNA - Daniel List returned a net score of 54 to win this year's Nigeria Independence Day Open Golf Championship which teed off at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday. He was followed in the second position by J.K. Kally with 67 net who beat Victor Danku on count-back, Yoo Sun placed fourth with 68 net, while Frank Adu took the fifth position with 70 net. In the Ladies segment, ever-green Mona Myres-Lamptey came first with 68 net, Pavelyn Tendai Musaka took the second position with 69 net, while Victoria Sosu-Adatsi placed third with 73 net. The one-day 18-Hole Medal Play event, which was open to amateur golfers throughout the country, attracted about 100 golfers. The championship was organized by Global Media Alliance in association with the Nigerian High Commission and sponsored by Amal Bank Ghana, United Bank for Africa, Intercontinental Bank, Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, Zenith Bank, IGI Insurance Limited and Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Limited.
Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana who was the Guest of honour said the event formed part of activities marking the 48th anniversary celebrations of Nigeria's Independence. He said it hoped that through sports the cordial relationship between Ghana and Nigeria would continue to be strengthened and praised the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah for the pioneering role he played in ensuring Ghana's Independence. Senator Obanikoro gave the assurance that the event would be played in the ensuing years.
