It was all joy and excitement when Daniel Agbloe Lomotey, capitalised on a blunder from Burkina Faso’s defence to seal the victory for Ghana in the ongoing Under-20 Africa Youth Championship (AYC).
Lomotey, who plays for Ghana Premier League side West Africa Football Academy (WAFA), gave Ghana the lead in the opening fixture against neighbors Burkina Faso played in Maradi, Niger on Monday.
The 19-year old, scored his first goal in the 41st minute to give the Black Satellites a morale booster, after Ghana’s match was rescheduled to Monday.
Lomotey, feeling unbeatable wrapped up the game with a second goal in the 77th minute, after lobbing the ball past Young Stallions’ goalie Mohamed Traore leaving them with no point to go home with.
The Black Satellites, grabbing the maximum points would battle their way through to the next stage with Senegal in the next Group B encounter, which is expected to be tough, with their opponent having won their first game against Mali with a convincing 2-0 victory yesterday.
With this result, Ghana lies at the summit of Group B with Senegal, Burkina Faso and Mali following in that order.
Ghana is paired in Group B alongside Burkina Faso, Senegal and Mali in the on-going AYC.
The 21st edition of the AYC staged in Niger would see the top four teams qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland this year.
