Cletus Avoka has called on Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, the Sports Minister-designate to ensure that all the 10 regions in Ghana would have a representative in the Ghana Premier League.
The Ghana Premier League is made up of 16 clubs, with majority from the Southern part of the country. Three Division One League clubs qualify annually from three Zones to replace the last three teams in the Ghana Premier League, after the close of every season.
However, Cletus Avoka believes that football would help unearth local talent and offer jobs to the people if promotion and relegation is done on regional basis, with each of the 10 regions getting a representation.
“Nii Lantey Vandepuye having followed football knows the business benefit of sports, so I am urging him to ensure that promotion to the Ghana Premier League is done on regional basis.
“Each of the 10 regions should have a club in the league and when a club from a region is relegated another from the same region should replace that club.
“There are a lot of talents that would be unearthed through that,” he said this at the floor of parliament on Wednesday.
Nii Lantey Vanderpuye would have to be confirmed to officially take over from Dr. Mustafa Ahmed as the sports minister.
