MP organises one-day netball tournament

Accra, April 19, GNA - The Ghana Netball Association (GNA) is to organize a one-day Netball tournament in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abokobi-Madina, Alhaji Amadu B. Sorogho as part of the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations in the Constituency on Saturday, April 21.

The tournament which is under the sponsorship of the Alhaji Sorogho and supported by the GNA with the needed technical assistance will be held at the La-Nkwantanang Cluster of Schools at Madina in the Greater Accra Region.

Alhaji Sorogho who is expected to formally open the tournament has among the participants, Fair Point Ladies and Heritage Ladies, both of Kpone-on-Sea, Golden Ladies and Adeshea Ladies of Ayawaso Sub-Metro Area of Accra and Sampling Ladies of Accra Central. The other teams are La-Nkwatanang Circuit of the GES, Madina No.1 Cluster of Schools Circuit of the GES Netball team and Abokobi area Schools Netball team.

Alhaji Sorogho told the GNA Sports that the tournament would also form the basis for the selection of players from the Madina - Abokobi Constituency to form two Netball teams in the Constituency. He promised to personally nurture and sponsor budding players to participate in all future tournaments organised by the Netball Association of Ghana.

Rev. E.D. Nikoi, Chairman of the Ghana Netball Association will be the tournament coordinator with Miss Elizabeth Akuba Archer, the Secretary General of the Association assisting him. Umpires for the tournament include Millicent Awude, Augustina Fugah, Emmanuel Eyison, a.k.a. Kyenkyehene, Alex Wisdom Amenu and Mrs Janet Nikoi.

At stake will be cash prizes and trophies for outstanding teams and players.
