The Parliamentarians team on Wednesday lifted the magnificent Good Governance Challenge Cup at stake when they beat the Ministers of State team 3-1 in a special fun-match at the Accra Sports Stadium.
President John Agyekum Kufuor the Special Guest of Honour presented the Cup to Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Member of Parliament for Ningo/Prampram and Captain of the Parliamentarians team.
Despite the defeat, Ministers of State team took away the Fair play cup, which was presented by Mr Peter Ala Adjetey, the Speaker of Parliament to Mr Edward Osei-Kwaku, Minister of Youth and Sports who captained his side.
The match was organised by the Parliamentary leadership as part of activities to mark the end of the third meeting of the Second Session of the Third Parliament of the Fourth Republic on Friday, December 20.
Mr Ala Adjetey took the kick-off before commencement of the game and 13 minutes into the game, young and energetic Dominic A.B. Nitiwul, MP for Bimbilla scored the first goal for the Parliamentarians when he connected home an in-swinger from Mr Mensah.
For a brief period of time the Ministers of State had 12 players on the field before the referee's attention was drawn to the anomaly by one of the linesmen to end the first half with the Parliamentarians on top of their opponents.
Two minutes into the second half Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi missed the post narrowly when he failed to connect a pass from Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku from the right flank.
On the 26th minute substitute Abuga Pele, MP for Chiana/Paga increased the tally for the Parliamentarians when he dribbled a host of players from the centre circle before planting the ball into the net.
The Ministers of State improved their game although most of the players from both sides showed signs of tiredness and in the 34th minute Professor Ameyaw-Ekumfi atoned for his series of near misses and redeemed a goal for his side after receiving a pass from the right flank.
Abuga Pele was on hand again in the 57th minute to seal the doom of their opponents when he scored the third goal for the Parliamentarians.
A player from each side was shown the yellow card for dissent and Mrs Edith Hazel, MP for Evalue-Gwira decided that the match should not become only an affair for the men and played for the Parliamentarians.
Mr Mensah later presented the Cup to Mr Ala Adjetey, the Speaker.
