MTN redeems pledge to Hearts

Accra, Aug.10, GNA - Mobile Telecommunications giants, MTN-Ghana on Friday presented a cheque for 10, 000 GHC (100 million cedis) to Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club, for winning the 2006/7 national Premier League.

This is in fulfilment of the company's pledge made to the Club at the beginning of last season.

George Andah, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN-Ghana who made the presentation on Friday said his outfit is committed to its obligation to the agreement with Hearts hence the move to redeem the pledge made before the commencement of the new soccer season.

He said Hearts has over the years exhibited through their performance the core values of MTN, adding that the company therefore looks forward to a more fruitful relationship.

Steve Akwetey, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Hearts said the Club is determined to retain the next league title and therefore called on MTN to consider increasing their package for the next season.

He said even though the coming season will be more challenging the Club has made the necessary recruitments to augment the playing body to take up any challenge.

Akwetey announced that the Board of Directors would soon come out with a business and commercial policy with special emphasis on the sale of replica jerseys by the close of next week.

This, he said is aimed at maximising profits from the sale of replica jerseys and other paraphernalia to increase the Club's revenue.
